Henry Hugh Patrick was born in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, in 1909, the son of Henry Niven Patrick and his wife Catherine Montague Patrick. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Hamilton branch. During the Second World War Patrick left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. 

 

On 7 July 1943 Patrick was part of the five-man crew of a Wellington bomber that took off from RAF Moreton in Marsh on a training flight. Not long afterwards the plane was involved in a mid-air collision and crashed near Chipping Norton airfield, killing all on board. Sergeant Patrick was 27 years old and left a widow, Marjory, whom he had married in 1941, and a baby son.
