Richard Morgan Parker was born on 29 April 1922, the son of James Henry and Constance Mary Parker of Old Brumby, Lincolnshire. He was educated at Scunthorpe Grammar School where he took an active part in many sides of school life including drama and music. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank in July 1939 as a probationer at Barton-on-Humber branch. He was appointed junior clerk at Barton-on-Humber effective from October 1939 and progressed to the post of clerk at the same branch in October 1941.

 

With the outbreak of war he became a member of the National Fire Service for Barton-on-Humber. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in July 1941. Flying Officer Richard Morgan Parker was presumed killed in action on his fifteenth operational flight, over Berlin, on 30 January 1944. He was 21 years old. His obituary in the bank’s staff magazine noted, ‘he possessed a lively interest in many sides of life, especially farming and all methods of transport. He was a staunch churchman, having been a sidesman at Frodingham Parish Church. His principal hobby was playing the violin.’
