Ronald Penrose

Ronald William Penrose was born on 12 September 1920, the son of Albert Edward and Irene Penrose. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in September 1937, working initially at Rhyl branch and from February 1940 at Prestatyn. A few months later, in July 1940, Penrose left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. 

 

Leading Aircraftman Penrose died of blood poisoning in Eritrea on 3 October 1942. He was 22 years old. A bank colleague later recalled, 'Penrose had a charming disposition and was full of ambition. He was destined to go far in the bank's service.'

 

Ronald Penrose is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Rhyl branch.
