Charles Alan Rowland (known to his family as Alan) was born on 16 April 1923, the only son of Charles Haywood Rowland and his wife Sarah Adeline. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Cambridge branch in February 1920.

 

He later left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died in France on 29 June 1944. He was 21 years old.

 

Charles Rowland  is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Cambridge Market Street branch.
