James Robson

Bank: Westminster Bank

Place of work: West Kensington branch

Died: 14 October 1941

James Eric Robson, known to his bank colleagues as Robbo, was born on 15 July 1917, the son of Stanley and Jennie Robson. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in September 1936, initially at London Piccadilly branch. Two months later he transferred to West Kensington branch, where he remained until July 1940, when he left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

Pilot Officer (Navigator) Robson was killed in a flying accident on 14 October 1941. He was 24 years old. A bank colleague later reflected, 'his sterling character and quiet demeanour will ever be remembered by those who had the privilege of serving with him, both in the bank and in his squadron. So long as England possesses sons of the calibre of young Robbo, our cause cannot fail.'
