Peter William Robbens was born on 9 July 1920, the son of Bertie and Ethel Robbens. He was educated at Lowestoft Secondary School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Ipswich branch in January 1937. He was promoted to junior clerk a few months later and to clerk in April 1939. 

 

On the outbreak of war in September 1939, he left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Artillery. Gunner Robbens was killed at Dunkirk on 29 May 1940. He was 19 years old.
