Peter Geoffrey Russell was born on 11 July 1923, the son of Percy Edward Russell and his wife Olive. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its London Lombard Street office in November 1940. 

 

He later left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Sergeant (Navigator) in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died in India on 4 December 1944. He was 21 years old. His younger brother Colin was killed in an accident less than four months later, also while serving in the RAFVR.

 

Peter Russell is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
