Anthony Stickells

Anthony Morgan Stickells was born on 23 October 1921, the son of George and Elsie Stickells. He was educated at the Harvey Grammar School, Folkestone, and joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Hythe (Kent) branch in November 1940. 

 

He later left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 12 April 1944 he was the wireless operator on the crew of Lancaster bomber that took off from RAF Skellingthorpe on a mission to bomb a road bridge at Aachen, Germany. The plane did not return; all on board were killed. Sergeant Stickells was 22 years old.
