On 16 April 1945, two weeks after his 20th birthday, Sub-Lieutenant Snape was killed in a plane crash while undertaking a navigational exercise over the Isle of Arran from his base on the aircraft carrier HMS Glory. His brother Frank survived the war and returned to District Bank in 1946.
