Dudley Thomas McEwan Sellman was born on 16 April 1911, the son of Leonard James and his wife Rosina Sellers. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Amersham branch in August 1928. Outside work he was a territorial soldier.

 

At the outbreak of war in 1939 Sellman was called to active duty with the Royal Artillery. He went on to serve throughout the war, from Dunkirk to the ceasefire in Italy. He was mentioned in despatches and at the time of his death, by which time he held the rank of Major, was awaiting the awarding of the Military Cross for gallantry in action at Senio river. He was killed in an accident in Italy on 1 July 1945. He was 34 years old.

 

Dudley Sellman is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Amersham branch.
