Harry Kenneth Slater was born in Lancashire in 1923, the son of James Henry Slater and his wife Gertrude Sybil. He was educated at Eccles Grammar School, and in October 1939 went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank at its Swinton branch. 

 

He later left the bank to go on war service, and by 1944 was a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in action on 24 June 1944. He was 21 years old.

 

Harry Slater is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
