Herbert Seaton

Bank: Westminster Bank

Place of work: Retford branch

Died: 19 March 1941

Herbert Gervase Seaton, known to his bank colleagues as Gerry, was born on 11 June 1920, the son of Herbert and Lucy Seaton. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Retford branch in September 1938. Outside work his interests included sport and choral singing.

In July 1940 he left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was just completing his training as a pilot when he was killed in an accident on 19 March 1941. He was 20 years old. A bank colleague later reflected, 'we have lost a pleasant comrade, and the RAF has lost a fine fighter pilot.'

Herbert Seaton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Retford branch.
