John Simon Scott was born in Govanhill, Glasgow, in 1918, the son of John Moffat Scott and his wife Helen McCredie Berrie Scott. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Glasgow Parkhead Cross branch. 

 

During the Second World War Scott left the bank to go on war service, and by 1944 he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, attached to the Royal Indian Artillery. He died in India on 16 August 1944. He was 26 years old. A month later his younger brother Charles was killed while serving in the Royal Air Force.
