Raymond Savage was born on 27 July 1918, the son of John and Elsie Savage. He was educated at Priory School for Boys, Shrewsbury. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Newton branch in March 1936. He was promoted to junior clerk in July 1936 and to clerk in July 1938.

 

He left the bank to go on military service in December 1939, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. In July 1943 he was commissioned and posted to India. Flying Officer Savage was admitted to hospital, dangerously ill, in March 1945 and despite surgery to remove his gallbladder died on 22 March 1945. He was 26 years old.
