Roy Stuart Stapley was born on 20 March 1925, the son of Stuart and Dorothy Annie Stapley. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Ashford, Kent branch in March 1941.

 

In September 1943 he left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Sergeant (Air Gunner) in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in air operations over Germany on 4 November 1944. He was 19 years old.

 

Roy Stapley is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Ashford Kent branch.
