Sidney Moger Saxton was born on 7 August 1912, the son of Thomas and Amy Saxton. He was educated at Broadgate School, Nottingham and Nottingham High School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank in February 1929 as a probationer at Nottingham branch. He was promoted to junior clerk a few months later and to clerk in July 1931. In November 1933 he moved to Oundle branch and in January 1938 moved to head office, London.

 

In August 1940 he left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Army Pay Corps. On the night of 19 November 1940 German bombers demolished a row of houses in Highfield Road, Leicester. Private Saxton was one of 12 members of the Royal Army Pay Corps who were billeted there and all were killed. He was 28 years old.
