Thomas Timms Shepley was born on 12 September 1910, the son of Hannah and Peter Kirk Shepley. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its head office in Manchester in March 1927. He moved to Didsbury branch in 1935 and to Stalybridge branch in 1939.

In May 1941 Shepley left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Leading Aircraftman Shepley died while on active service on 29 December 1944. He was 34 years old and left a widow, Alice, whom he had married earlier that year.
