Geoffrey Turton

Bank: National Provincial Bank

Place of work: London High Holborn branch

Died: 22 June 1944

Geoffrey Elphick Turton was born on 6 June 1919, the son of Wallace Herbert Arnold Turton, a police officer, and Bessie Hope Turton. He was educated at Hertford Grammar School.

In October 1937 Turton joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer in the bank's administration department at its head office in London. He was promoted to junior clerk in January 1938 and moved to High Holborn branch in May 1939.

On the outbreak of war Turton left his job with the bank and joined the Royal Air Force. On 22 June 1944, a couple of weeks after his 25th birthday, Pilot Officer Geoffrey Turner was reported missing following air operations over Normandy. It was later confirmed that he had died on that day, when the Typhoon he was flying had gone down over France.
