Harold Tudor Thomas was born on 6 June 1920, the son of Tudor Ceredig Thomas and Florence Ethel Thomas. He was educated at Slough Secondary School. 

 

In December 1936 Thomas joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Slough branch. His father's brother already worked at National Provincial Bank's office on Lombard Street, London. Thomas was promoted to clerk in April 1939.

 

In December 1941 Thomas left his job at the bank to join the Royal Navy. On 19 November 1942 Ordinary Telegraphist Harold Thomas was drowned, along with all the crew, when the ship on which he was serving, HM Trawler Ullswater, was torpedoed and sunk by a German boat in the English Channel. He was 22 years old.
