Harry Taylor was born on 27 August 1916, the son of Harry and Jean Gibson Taylor. In July 1934, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Annan branch. In May 1939 he transferred to the bank's London Bishopsgate office. 

 

In August 1940 Taylor left the bank to go on military service, becoming a pilot in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Sergeant Taylor was killed in air operations over Germany on 27 March 1942. He was 25 years old. 

 

Harry Taylor is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
