Harry Todd was born on 4 May 1911, the son of Elizabeth and Richard Thomas Todd, a grocer. He was educated at Pocklington Grammar School.

 

In February 1929 Todd joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Hull branch. He was promoted to clerk in July 1931. He moved to Gainsborough branch in 1936 and to Bridlington branch in 1938. At the end of 1939 he married Marian in Howden, Yorkshire. 

 

In August 1940 Todd left his job at the bank to join the armed forces. On 27 October 1942, when he was serving with the Royal Tank Regiment in the Middle East, Trooper Harry Todd was killed in action. He was 31 years old and left his widow, Marian.
