John Timewell

John Benjamin Timewell was born on 26 May 1912, the son of Mortimer John and Georgina Violet Timewell. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in June 1929, and from May 1934 was based at the bank's Acton Park branch. He was a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

In January 1940 Timewell left the bank to go on war service, initially in the Honourable Artillery Company. He was soon transferred to officer training, and on receiving his commission in October 1940 was posted to the Royal Artillery. Second Lieutenant Timewell was killed in action in North Africa on 14 December 1941. He was 29 years old.
