Thomas Joseph Rogerson Turner was born on 3 September 1921, the son of Joseph and Jane Turner. He joined the staff of District Bank as a clerk at its Nantwich branch in August 1938. He moved to Crewe branch in 1939.

 

In February 1942 Turner left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Flying Officer Turner was killed on 9 August 1944 as the navigator of a Halifax bomber which was shot down over Romania. He was 22 years old and left a widow, Irene, whom he had married at the end of 1943.
