Wilfred Tansley was born on 29 June 1911, the son of Henry and Kate Tansley. He was educated at Finchley County School. He joined the staff of Glyn, Mills & Co in January 1929 at its head office in Lombard Street, London. 

 

In October 1940 Tansley left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Leading Aircraftman Tansley was killed in a mid-air collision on 3 June 1941. He was 29 years old and left a widow, Greta, whom he had married in 1936.
