In December 1941, at the age of 41, Woollett left his job at the bank to go on war service, initially serving as an Acting Pilot Officer in the RAF’s Accountant branch. He later joined the RAF Regiment. Flight Lieutenant Woollett was accidentally shot and killed on 29 June 1943 during a training exercise. He was 42 years old and left his widow, Rena.
