David Cowan Wilson was born on 6 March 1922, the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Wilson of Maybole. In May 1939, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Maybole branch. 

 

In September 1942 Wilson left the bank to go on military service, becoming an Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed by a flying bomb in the London area on 4 August 1944. He was 22 years old. 

 

David Wilson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
