Edward Wood was born on 25 January 1924, the son of Reginald and Nellie Wood. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Douglas branch on the Isle of Man in August 1940, when he was 16 years old.

 

In September 1942 Wood left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Private in the South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 16 July 1944. He was 20 years old.

 

Edward Wood is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Douglas Athol Street branch.
