Noel Edward Willows was born on 1 January 1921, the son of John Edward and Ethel Mary Willows. He was educated at Haberdashers' Aske's School, Hertfordshire.

 

In January 1938 Willows joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Hendon branch. He was promoted to junior clerk three months later.

 

On the outbreak of war Willows left his job at the bank to join the Royal Armoured Corps. On 25 October 1942, when he was serving with the 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), Lance Corporal Noel Willows was killed in action during the Second Battle of Alamein in Egypt. He was 21 years old.
