Stanley Andrew Wensley was born on 6 June 1917, the son of Cyril William and Alexandra McIntosh Wensley. He was educated at the Alsop High School, Liverpool.

 

In March 1935 Wensley joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Liverpool Victoria Street branch. He moved to Warrington branch in 1936 and was promoted to clerk in July 1937.

 

In February 1940 Wensley left his job at the bank to serve with the army, joining the Grenadier Guards. In July 1943 he was commissioned to the East Lancashire Regiment. He was posted to France in June 1944. Barely a month later, on 30 July 1944, Lieutenant Stanley Wensley was killed in action in Normandy. He was 27 years old.
