Willis Widdowson

Willis Widdowson was born in 1919, the son of George and Grace Widdowson. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank on his 17th birthday in 1936, working at its Nottingham Thurland Street branch. Outside work he was a keen and talented cricketer.

 

In October 1939 Widdowson left the bank to join the army. By 1945 he was a Warrant Officer serving in Burma, part of the Royal Army Service Corps, attached to the Royal West Africa Frontier Force. He died there on 15 March 1945. He was 26 years old.

 

Willis Widdowson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Nottingham Smiths Bank branch.
