Raymond Wright Boulton was born in 1886, the son of John Henry Boulton, a commercial traveller in the printing trade, and his wife Elizabeth. In 1903 he went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank.

 

In January 1917 Boulton left his job in the bank's Rotherham branch to go on military service. Bombardier Raymond Wright Bolton of the Royal Field Artillery was killed in action on the Western Front on 12 April 1918. He was 32 years old and left a widow, Kathleen.
