Joseph Deery
Bank: Ulster Bank
Place of work: Dublin College Green branch
Died: 11 October 1918
Joseph Deery was born in Castlederg, County Tyrone, in 1894, the son of Andrew Deery, a farmer, and his wife Catherine. He worked for Ulster Bank at its Belfast head office, and later in its Dublin College Green branch.
In December 1915 Deery left the bank to join the army. Lance Corporal Joseph Deery of the Royal Irish Fusiliers died in France on 11 October 1918. He was 24 years old.
Joseph Deery is commemorated on two memorials at Ulster Bank’s Belfast head office: its roll of honour for staff who served in the First World War and its memorial for those who fell. The roll of honour mistakenly identifies his date of death as 1 October 1918.
