Thomas Duncan Dewar was born in 1894, the son of Thomas and Janet Dewar. In October 1909 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland, and in June 1910 he was appointed to the staff of Alloa branch.

 

During the First World War Dewar left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action on the Somme on 4 August 1916. He was 22 years old.

 

Thomas Dewar is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
