Stuart Laurence was born on 15 October 1891, the son of Frank and H Gertrude Laurence. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Maidstone branch.

During the First World War Laurence served as a Second Lieutenant in The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). He died in France on 17 September 1916. He was 24 years old.
