Eric Roy More was born in Edinburgh in 1898, the fifth and youngest son of George More, a solicitor, and his wife Isabella. In August 1914 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Edinburgh Easter Road branch. In April 1915 he moved to Edinburgh West End branch; in July 1915 to Edinburgh Greenside branch; in November 1915 to Edinburgh Grassmarket branch; and in April 1916 to the correspondence department at the bank's head office in George Street, Edinburgh.

 

During the First World War More left the bank to join the army. By 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action in Italy on 27 October 1918. He was 20 years old.

 

Eric More is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
