William MacKintosh

William Alistair MacKintosh was born in India in about 1899, the son of William and Jessie MacKintosh. In July 1914 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Lanark branch.

 

During the First World War Mackintosh joined the army, serving as a Private in the Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 9 April 1918. He was 19 years old.

 

William MacKintosh is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
