William Morrison was born in Kirkcaldy in 1893, the son of James and Margaret Stewart Morrison. He was educated at Kirkcaldy High School.

 

In July 1909 Morrison went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Kirkcaldy branch. In May 1914 he became accountant at the bank's Kirkcaldy Dunnikier Road branch, and in July 1914 he moved to Kirkcaldy West End branch, also as accountant.

 

During the First World War Morrison left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 23 years old and left a widow, Helen.

 

William Morrison is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
