Cuthbert Stewart was born in Scotland in 1899, the son of William Stewart. In May 1915 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Keith branch.

 

During the First World War Stewart left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 21 March 1918. He was 18 years old.

 

Cuthbert Stewart is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
