Donald Reginald Simpson was born in Inverness in 1897, the son of Donald and Barbara Simpson. In November 1911 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Inverness branch.

 

During the First World War Simpson left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private (Signaller) in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 28 April 1917. He was 20 years old.

 

Donald Simpson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
