Henry Robert Kilgour Sharp was born in Edinburgh in 1892, the only son of Henry John Sharp, a commercial clerk, and his wife Christina. In 1910 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland.

 

During the First World War Sharp left his job at the bank's Edinburgh Juniper Green branch to join the army. Private Sharp of the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment), attached to the King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry) was killed in action on the Somme on 3 August 1916. He was 23 years old.

 

Henry Sharp is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
