John Solly

John Algernon Solly was born in Sandwich, Kent on 27 June 1884, the son of George and Frances Jane Solly. After leaving school he went to work for a chartered accountant, but after 10 months there he took a job with Williams Deacon's Bank, working at its London Birchin Lane branch.

 

Early in the First World War Solly left the bank to go on military service as a Rifleman in the London Regiment. He died in hospital in Rouen on 29 April 1915, of wounds received in action. He was 30 years old.
