Arthur Normansell Townsend Turner was born in Horwich, Lancashire, in 1896. He worked for Williams Deacon's Bank at its branches in Salford and Gorton.

 

During the First World War Turner left his job at the bank's Gorton branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He died on 10 March 1916 of wounds received in action on the Western Front. He was 19 years old.
