Charles Thomson was born in Paisley in 1894, the son of John and Jeanie Thomson. In March 1910 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Paisley branch.

 

During the First World War Thomson left the bank to join the army. By 1918 he was a Captain in the East Lancashire Regiment. He died on 1 September 1918 of wounds received in action in France. He was 24 years old.

 

Charles Thomson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
