Charles Tomlinson was born in Baslow, Derbyshire, in 1894, the son of Richard and Catherine Tomlinson. He worked for Williams Deacon's Bank.

 

Early in the First World War Tomlinson left his job at the bank's Chesterfield branch to go on military service. Lance Corporal Charles Tomlinson of the Signal Corps, Royal Engineers, was killed in action in Turkey on 6 September 1915. He was 21 years old.

Thank you for remembering my great uncle, someone that was never spoken about by my grandmother. Her son, my uncle, didn’t last week know that he had had an uncle who was only a year older than his mother. Great suppressed grief which is good to acknowledge.
