George Harry Wordsworth was born in Rotherham in 1896, the son of Jim Wordsworth, a stove and grate foreman, and his wife Rose. In 1913 he went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank at its Sheffield branch. In 1914 he moved to Rotherham branch.

 

In September 1915 Wordsworth joined the army. Lance Corporal George Harry Wordsworth of the Middlesex Regiment was killed in action in Greece on 25 October 1918. He was 22 years old.
