Ralph Brown

Bank: Westminster Bank

Place of work: London Threadneedle Street office

Died: 10 March 1943

Ralph Taylor Brown was born on 8 July 1919, the son of Alexander Taylor Brown and his wife Mary Macmillan Brown. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in its trustee department on Threadneedle Street, London in August 1937. A colleague there later recalled ‘his fine bearing, cheery outlook and willingness to be helpful on all occasions. Walking to do a bidding was never quick enough for Brown, if it were possible to run.’ Outside work he was a member of the bank's staff sports club.

On the outbreak of war Brown left the bank to go on war service, becoming an officer in the Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery. By 1943 he was a Lieutenant, on active service in North Africa. He was killed in action there on 10 March 1943. He was 23 years old.

Ralph Brown is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
