Bernard Anthony O'Halloran, known to his bank colleagues as 'Tiny', was born on 14 September 1908, the son of Thomas Joseph and Emily Elizabeth O'Halloran. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its London Threadneedle Street office in March 1939, having previously worked for P&O Bank. His colleagues later recalled 'his unassuming reliability, his helpfulness and his unshakeable cheerfulness all through the difficult times.'

 

In 1942 he left the bank to join the Royal Marines. Marine O'Halloran was serving at HMS Braganza, a shore base in India, when he died of heat stroke on 13 June 1945. He was 36 years old.

 

Bernard O'Halloran is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
