Barbara Olive Wittrick was born on 6 August 1923, the daughter of Gertrude and Frederick Wittrick. She was educated at the Royal Masonic School, Rickmansworth.

 

In March 1940 Wittrick joined National Provincial Bank as temporary staff at its London head office, following her older sister Lorna. She later moved to the Central Posting department at Roehampton. 

 

On 7 November 1940 Barbara Wittrick was at home in London with her mother and two sisters when the house was hit by a bomb. She and both of her sisters were killed. Barbara Wittrick was 17 years old.
