Lorna Gertrude Wittrick was born on 12 March 1918, the daughter of Gertrude and Frederick Wittrick, a farmer. She was educated at the Royal Masonic School, Rickmansworth.

 

In February 1940 Wittrick joined National Provincial Bank as temporary staff at its Parkholme office. A month later she was transferred to the bank's Central Posting department at Parkholme. At around the same time her younger sister Barbara also joined the bank’s temporary staff.

 

On 7 November 1940 Lorna Wittrick was at home in London with her mother and two sisters when the house was hit by a bomb. She and both of her sisters were killed. Lorna Wittrick was 22 years old.
