Union of London & Smiths Bank amalgamated with National Provincial Bank of England in 1918, so by the time this memorial was erected, the bank no longer existed in its own right. This separate memorial was, however, created as a recognition that Union of London & Smiths was the bank to which these men belonged, and from which they had gone to war. It was placed in what had been Union of London & Smiths Bank's head office, at Princes Street, London.
